The lesson I learned from going on the Underground tour of Seattle is that Gold Rush benefits the ones who lead the way. It is funny that by the time the Gold Rush to Alaska was in full swing, the people who made a killing were the merchants and hookers of Seattle.
I think at the time they required you have have certain amount of supply and a horse to go up to Alaska, and the merchants were all out of horses so they sent out donkey or sheep instead. A whole city block was registered to have 600 "seamstress" but I bet there were no sewing machine to be found anywhere. By the time the massive amount of people went up to Alaska for their dreams and found it was just that, a dream, it gave Seattle its start and people made tons of money on others' failure.
Of course I am not advocating cheating people, I actually believe that if you make sure you are doing something for the common good, there will be good people following you. The real point I am trying to make is that sometime you just have to go out there and take a chance, be true to the vision and be ahead of the curve. I think it worked out very well for us with the Cash for Clunker deal. We got the car we wanted and the discount we wanted before it became a frenzy.
That is my free lesson of the day, grasshopper. ;)
