Dairyland Greyhound Racing closing!
900 greyhounds will need to be adopted or placed in foster homes or kennels by 12-31-09 or they will be DEAD!
We just emailed to apply to be a foster family at www.gpawisconsin.org .
What can you do to help?
UPDATE: after more in depth research, it turns out that Wisconsin will keep any greyhounds in the park until they are all accounted for.
see below
There is an email circulating around on the internet that is fueling false and hurtful information. Please don't drink the Kool-Aid! The email states that 900 dogs from Dairyland will be put to sleep and we only have 6 weeks to move those dogs. The email is signed from someone who's title is "operations manager" and it infers that they work at Dairyland.
THIS INFORMATION IS FALSE!
I have confirmation from the State of Wisconsin that all the dogs at Dairyland will be accounted for and can stay at the facility as long as it takes to find adoption groups for them.
Please if you receive this email, do not forward it. Refer people to this forum and these threads for accurate information. GPA National is currently working on a public response to this email, and as soon as I have that, I'll post it here.

Thanksgiving @ Mary Lou's
We were invited to go to our great friend and ex-neighbor Mary Lou's for Thanksgiving. Her lake house is by one of the lesser known but beautiful lakes of Madison.
We picked up Siew Inn along the way. She is another person in Mary Lou's " unrelated family ". She is quite a strong lady in her age. The "fun" fact of her life is that somehow her name was put in the database as a motel inn, so at times she can get 400 phone calls at night for reservation and ask about free breakfast.
One of Mary Lou's sons, Joe, was the chef for a nice big tasty turkey. His kids Sammy and Sophie were great kids to play with. Rachel made green bean casserole and I picked out a couple bottles of wine.
I think once you experience a group of very positive people, the love and the energy of supportive-ness, there is less and less tolerance for toxic people and their behaviors. I am very proud of Mary Lou for the choice she made and her brave decision to let go and rebuild her life on her term. I know I have to find that strength in myself as well. She is my role model even if she does not know. I am very blessed and thankful for all the good positive people around me and I am grateful for their support. More than they know, I bet, but I guess it is my fault of not telling them enough.
I had three plates of dinner, btw. Shugar would be proud of Sophie, she was half way done with her pumpkin pie with her hands before anyone realized she had no fork and need someone to cut the pie to little pieces.
We played a game of Trouble after dinner with the kids. All I know is that I was last and I think Rachel won. I know the kids love her a lot.
I really need to thank Mary Lou again and everyone there for a great Thanksgiving. I also need to thank Shugar for her invite to include us in her family gathering that we could not do, both Rachel and I think that is a very sweet gesture but coming from Shugar, the sweetness is no surprise. ;) ha ha ha

Gold Rush
The lesson I learned from going on the Underground tour of Seattle is that Gold Rush benefits the ones who lead the way. It is funny that by the time the Gold Rush to Alaska was in full swing, the people who made a killing were the merchants and hookers of Seattle.
I think at the time they required you have have certain amount of supply and a horse to go up to Alaska, and the merchants were all out of horses so they sent out donkey or sheep instead. A whole city block was registered to have 600 "seamstress" but I bet there were no sewing machine to be found anywhere. By the time the massive amount of people went up to Alaska for their dreams and found it was just that, a dream, it gave Seattle its start and people made tons of money on others' failure.
Of course I am not advocating cheating people, I actually believe that if you make sure you are doing something for the common good, there will be good people following you. The real point I am trying to make is that sometime you just have to go out there and take a chance, be true to the vision and be ahead of the curve. I think it worked out very well for us with the Cash for Clunker deal. We got the car we wanted and the discount we wanted before it became a frenzy.
That is my free lesson of the day, grasshopper. ;)

Shugar is hungry

Bill always taught us to be hungry and work hard. I am very impressed with Shugar. She is definitely hungry.
She set up this MySpace account and figured out how to have as many friends as possible around Waukesha to promote herself. AND she had gotten business from it already!
I wish I am that smart but I am just jealous. Maybe I am not hungry enough. To my own defense though, I am too old for MySpace and I had made a promise never ever to return to the evil Facebook. I am on Twitter and LinkedIn, be my follower and my link? Please?
Oh, it was not fun back then when Bill gave me the Hungry Enough speech, I think I was too tired to take one more piece on Saturday, but I am glad he taught me the work ethic and it stays with me. I know he treated the guys like we are part of the shop, and he would listen to us. How I miss those days.
I really really do.

What is going on?
Sometime late afternoon, co-Worker Shugar and I would go grab some food before appointments. For second time straight, she had her horchata refilled for free while I just sit there with my half empty glass.
I don't know what to think, I ate there all the time and I had never gotten one free refill, and still haven't.
I think the waitress wants Shugar to be her next daughter in law! She gets gallons of free horchata from this poor love struck guy works there already, maybe that is the son.
Of course, just some rumors I am spreading. ( Well, I am just jealous... ha ha )

A fool moment

The other night I came back to the shop from dinner, and Skully had finished a tattoo of five turtles on a gal's shoulder before I went to the dinner. He was talking about it while he was working on a different gal, he said the five turtles means the five Hawaii islands.
Not thinking, I cracked a bad joke about if she goes to South Dakota, would she get the four presidents. Skully went on to explained the reason was that she hiked all five islands.
Not until the next day that Skully reveal to me, the gal with the turtles was standing there the whole time!
The horror!
Like a comedian bombed with a silent crowd.
I am so sorry whoever you are!

Sick day
All day yesterday I had a light fever, a cold spell here and there and I was sleepy. I must said that I had some pretty vivid dreams.
After sleeping all day, I wonder how I would be able to sleep at night but I sure did. I had a dream about eating (Big surprise!). In the dream I had 30 minutes before I catch a flight somewhere, someone suggested a local eatery and I went along. I was served a big bowl of soup but I was warned that a lot of bugs fall into the soup for tourists. I picked through the soup, and I found some hay in it, I was told that was from the barbed wire (yeah, somehow I did not question that in my dream). I then started to find blades in my soup: Switchblades, straight razor, and some toy swords. I stick them right on the wood table, and went ahead to enjoy my Tom Yum soup. The customers next to me knocked all the blades on the floor when they left, and as I was picking them up, I was wondering how I can bring them in my luggage.
The second dream was a visit by Angel Becky. I was up at her and Angel Kenny's cabin. A cheery Becky, happy and restored, told me she had some music for me. At first I thought it was the Buddhist chant I plays during mourning, but then it turns into a familiar song yet I can not remember. I woke up happy, knowing her and Kenny are in a good place and they are good.
I am still amazed on how much sleeping I did.

"The Orphanage" (2007)

I am sick at home, despite a warm sunny day outside. I slept all day and this is the highlight of the day to watch this movie.
Let me tell you, there is a reason why horror films in US just don't match up with the rest of the world these days. This is a well written movie.

Galgos
On our last trip to England, thanks to Christel and many other greyhound rescue people all over US, we were able to bring some dog coats and collars to UK for galgo rescues there.
