  1. Does Nice Ash serve food? If not, these people in line do not look like people that would spend time in his establishment. I don't get his comment. It's interesting that someone who represent the BID board would do this.

  2. I agree that the Nice Ash comment is confusing. Is the truck owner splitting the proceeds with Barta? How is the guy making any money? I can't imagine the margin on sliders out of a truck is real high. I also don't get how a bar right on Main Street is losing business. It's the other businesses that deserve to complain.

  3. To be fair, they do serve bar pizza. I think people are unhappy because it is going against the grain with the whole Eat local, buy local thing.

  4. I think that since businesses seem to have no say in the street closings, they should be able to do whatever (within reason) they can to make up for lost business. I am ok with Jeff having a food truck given what FNL has turned into, which is a street festival. I would be opposed to a food truck that isn't partnering with a local business like say Streetza coming down there but I am 100 percent ok with places like the Nice Ash trying to make up for lost income.

I think a nice compromise would be to do the events once a month from May through October. Have it the first Friday of the month and close off the streets for that night only. If on other Fridays restaurants and stores want to have live music, let them have it on their property or in one of the nearby parks.

  5. Just to play devil's advicate, how about the thought that other community seize the chance to basically copy the same event on all fridays. Pewaukee already is doing the Saturday Night Live I think...

  6. I also do not think there is a guideline if all the food trucks from Milwaukee wants to park up and down Main... Isn't it pretty easy to get a permit, does anyone know?

  7. Just as you can't complain about more tattoo parlors coming into downtown, (as long as they follow the laws), I don't think it's appropriate to condemn a new street food vendor (as long as they follow the laws).

The bigger Friday Night Live gets, the more mouths there will be to feed. I suspect that that people were lined up by the sliders truck because of the novelty. Next week they may be back for gyros and ribs.

It also might help Tony if he had some nice big signs (visible from 10 feet away) that clearly stated what he was selling. The fresh lemonade was perfect, by the way. And my son loved the gyro.

  8. The thing with another community copying the event is that FNL essentially is a Waukesha event attended by Waukesha residents. Yes people from outside the City go, but it seems like its probably 75 percent Waukesha residents. I would assume Saturday Night Live in Pewaukee is primarily attended by Pewaukee residents.

Also the idea that another community would close off its entire downtown every Friday is kind of crazy. :)

I don't have a horse in this race so whether the streets are closed or not has no impact on me. I do think it's unfair to businesses who don't benefit but I think the genie is out of the bottle and FNL is so popular that it cannot be safely done in their current form without closing the streets. I do kind of have this fear that eventually this is going to end in a lawsuit by businesses that are negatively impacted.

I have spoken to a lot of people that attend FNL and every single one of them loves that the streets are closed and most of them wonder why any businesses are complaining with so many people down there. These are longtime residents who remember the not-too-distant past when downtown was a ghost-town every night of the week. So I think that the opinion of the general public is that they want the streets closed, which means its going to be even harder to change this event.

  9. I mean ADVOCATE... The tablet has no spell check...

What if American Tattoo invites a pizza food truck in because they have issue with Magellan's band... Yes, everything is legal but the street fight just go to the next level... I am just saying...
