The training
My aunt and uncle's house was on this one acre on top of the hill. The only way to get to it was a long steep driveway with a slight turn. When you would come down the hill, you came over the hill with lot of faith. When you would go up the hill, the last 10 feet was often the danger zone. My aunt had a Mustang, and more than once her car slide all the way down when she could not make it over the sticky point. More than once I left zigzag burnt tire marks on that last 25 feet of the hill trying to not slide down.
When I think of that, the drive home was really a breeze. I was going on the straight line and I have a front wheel drive car now... :)
Tomorrow when I have to go out to clean the snow, I will think about how I had to do that long driveway by hand, and how I would slip and be a human sled down that long drive way...

Pho 27 and Viet Hoa
First good sign, the place was packed with Asians on a Sunday afternoon. The service was good and the food came super fast. I had the Special Beef noodle soup and Ms. Kool had the Pork with rice noodle. We also ordered , spring roll, salt and pepper squid, Vietnamese coffee, and a Tapioca drink.
The food is pretty authentic, just like when our Vietnamese friend Yen and Amy took us around in Vegas. It is not par with the best Vegas/ West Coast can offer but it is quite a delight in Milwaukee. This is pretty exciting for us, and 27th st, might just turn into a mini Asian town here and there.
We were stuffed and happy, and to the new Viet Hoa we went.
We had shopped at the Viet Hoa supermarket on North, and this place is twice as big. I was like a kid in the candy store...
We bought a Pomelo and some Dragon Fruit, and Rachel bought two more sandwiches from the sandwich shop for later. She also had another tapioca drink there, and the boba is better here than Pho 27. I am still a purist, I like my Boba in Boba milk tea, not these fruity flavors.
On the way out, we saw Pho Viet, which we will try in a different time.
Photo of the Pomelo hat will be coming next... ;)
p.s. the sandwiches from the shop within Viet Hoa are awesome, and we had ours cold... I can totally see why Eat would want to go there for lunch...

Burger War continues...
My waitress was very good and friendly, but I was extremely uncomfortable somehow, I felt like I crashed a neighborhood party at 3pm Saturday. People were very loud and I had a headache. Even with that, I decided to go ahead with the mission in hand and get a burger.
The special of the day was the Bourbon burger and with suggestion I took the curly fries. I instantly regret the decision, I wish I would take their biggest burger for a valid comparison.
This burger was extremely greasy and not really in the class of People's, J Lotti's or Bodway's with its thin patty, I actually can't really taste the beef much with the gooey mess of cheese, sauce and pieces of bacon. I regret getting the special even more, and I wish I would've stuck with my first instinct of ordering a 1/2 pound of Anything but Kitchen Sink.
I guess I will call this a trial run, but once again, my waitress was on top of her game, that I have nothing but praises there.

Where is he gonna go?
Last night I walked back from my dinner at D Mo's, I saw this homeless guy gathering his belongings on the side of the road. He is the same guy whom came in and disrupted the wedding and asked me to tattoo him and give him money FOR it. He also came in one night asking Lynda to call the police so he can be arrested but the cops declined.
When I came out of the shop, I saw him hiding in the stairway to the basement of Wisconsin House. I am guessing he has nowhere to go and desperately trying to find a place to stay warm. He is an alcoholic, and some shelter will not take him in. I am guessing the shelters in Waukesha are pretty full as is anyway.
I do not know what is the right and what is wrong, I just feel bad for this guy in the cold cold night...

We all went to D Mo's last night and the place was packed at 9pm! Good thing to see in downtown Waukesha! Chef Tony's special creation for me was red beets risotto with goat cheese, and it was pink! Okay, when I see beets I usually run the other way but I was also taught to eat what is in front of you and boy, it was good! Perhaps I was delirious from drinking the Delirium but this pink creation was quite tasty and I think he should make it as a special when the Breast Cancer Walk come around this year... (OMG, BREAST!) One thing about going with Chef's Creation is that Chef Tony is expanding my range of foodie appreciation... I am very thankful he took time out of his busy night to "whip something out".
However, we also met this guy last night that the waitress just want to get him out of the dining room and the bartenders were not thankful of that...

Lunch with Sham
Sham is supposed to have a film crew following him but since it was snowing pretty hard in Milwaukee, they decided to leave the film crew behind.
Chef Tony made a special short rib sandwich with avocado for me, which should be on the lunch menu! It is definitely a drool magnet.
We were given a tour to the hotel part of the building, where I had never been to. I was surprised to see the sign of the hotel right around the corner from the D Mo entrance and I was surprised by the hotel lobby on the second floor!
The black wall and the beautiful sky light were classy and welcoming. I truly did not expect it was that nice upstairs... Anthony is in charge of the hotel operation now and I think he is doing a great job!
I was told that while Sham is out of the office, that was the time all the Flux crew would be interviewed... Oh, I forgot to mention, the filming is for a possible reality show and we are/were in the pilot when the tattoo shop was being built.

Chef Tony asked me if I was hungry and I was, so he just went to the back and created something. It was cannelloni. You might think heavy pasta with lots of cheese and sink to the bottom of my tummy like a rock, but I do not know how he did it, every bite was nice and light. To my surprise, he brought out another pasta dish for me, and it was pasta with clams. Once again, certain lightness with the pasta and the flavor on it was so good that eating the clams were an afterthought. I must had 5-6 pasta dishes there by now and Tony just continues to raise the bar. I guess this dish was on the menu once but some people did not like the idea of clam shells in the dish. (Huh?)
Perception is exactly what Tony tries to overcome as a chef as what we do as tattoo artists. When one thinks of pasta in America, the first thought was heavy, but for him the real Italian food is light with freshness. I am really learning with each dish and I still can not believe I am eating this in downtown Waukesha. Sorry, sis, Jamie Oliver's Italian can not compete with this, and I do hope you will be here in the summer to back up what I am saying as the real art critic.
This log entry starts to sound like a Jessica McBride love letter again, but Tony has TOP CHEF talent (which he was invited) and we are so freaking lucky to have him here thanks to his bride to be Jody. This foodie appreciates the tender trap... ;)

Painful day for Da Bears
...and the debate begins...
Sarah's report on Fuzzy's
Brien's report on JamBoree
Sis's suggestion
Ms. Kool and I went to D Mo's for brunch. The southern style buttermilk biscuit was a delightful surprise. I had a very good steak and eggs and Ms. Kool had the scramble with spinach and black olive.
We stayed to watch the game with Tony and Jody, the first half is pretty much typical of all Bears fans' usual pain: No Offense. It was even a relief when they ended the half only down by 14.
Tony brought out BBQ ribs at the half, the meat just fell right off the bone. They do have the all you can eat ribs on Thursdays...
When the Bears put in the second string, I thought they gave up. Despite the two INT, the third string QB from CSU actually played. I think if Cutler was hurt from the start, they had better chance with this third string QB all the way. However, that was a CHAMPIONSHIP game, you do not sort out your QB problem at the biggest game of the season!
Tony, the Jets fan, had an even worse first half than me, but the chi started to improve when we moved the party to J Lotti's. I do have to stress that J Lotti is a Packers Bar, this lone Bears fan was sitting far far in the corner.
So it is Packers vs. Steelers. I will be ready for this two weeks of hype and Packers tattoos... I know what was like around 1996, and we shall see if the frenzy reaches the same level.

From Patch
Rich and I both agreed that we will cheer for the winner of today's NFC Championship in the Superbowl, because they have to earn it in this epic battle.
For full disclosure purpose, I also have to say that I am also a Broncos' fan with my Colorado tie. I had to experience the three Superbowl bloodbath (39-20, 42-10, 55-10) with Elway tried to win it all by himself and then the two he won back to back (31-24, 34-19). I know the high's high and the low's low. Today's game will likely set the mood for the coming week, Wisconsin will either be like a big funeral or hype central. The sun will still come out either way.
Okay, a little motivational speech before the big game...

Endless Pasta at D Mo's
She was very surprised that there is this little hideaway in downtown Waukesha and boy, she was impressed with the wine, the food, and the dessert.
There were four kinds of pasta to choose: Linguine with Pesto sauce and sun dried tomato, Spaghetti and meatball, rigatoni with spinach and sausage, or Mac and cheese with sausage, chicken or shrimp.
I vowed to eat all four but wimped out at two, I had the rigatoni that I had before and Tony the chef/owner picked the Pesto one for me. It was great! I do think they have the best pasta on Main Street and it feels light when you eat it, Magellan's Smokey Alfredo is also very good but much more heavy.
Tomorrow night is all you can eat ribs....Yikes, we need a health club on Main Street...

I was just told by Major Carol from Waukesha Salvation Army that Berg Management stepped in and made one young man displaced by the fire extremely happy. Thank you, Catherine!
I also learned that there will be a Taste of Waukesha happening on June 18th, 2011, one day before the Carl Zach Cycling Classic.
There will also be a 5k Leprechaun run in downtown Waukesha on March 12th, 2011.
I was not able to make the Key Westconsin soft opening because I had to go shoeless due to some nail art by person who does not want to be identified at Moxie. It was a Carroll C, yeah, that's the ticket... By the way, the person who shall remain nameless said NO MORE NAIL ART! Nail polish was all over her clothes and the floor...
There will also be no Paella dinner at D Mo's tomorrow night, it has been postponed because Darryl is sick. Get well soon!
There is also a call for more people to sign up for the Snowball. I think Wiggy need to make a celebrity appearance... All the who's who of Waukesha will be there.
I am thinking about drawing up another Charity Kitty for auction to honor the poor kitty angel lost in the fire and to help the displaced families.

Katie's last Gallery Night at the Pfister
It's happened. My last gallery night at the hotel is coming up this Friday.
I'd like to thank everyone who came to the previous ones and help fill out the Rouge Ballroom, which was not an easy thing to do.
Here are the BASIC facts:
9-11:30pm (after party in the Rouge)
Here are the DETAILS:
The theme for the night is Nature in Milwaukee.
The Friday night show in the Rouge features two artists:
Micheal Kutzer of Bayview showing his landscapes of Milwaukee from the Seminary woods to the lake shore, Micheal explores these wonderful places accompanied by his giant dog, Merlot.
Mary Agnew of Riverwest will have her photos of her up close and intensely personal encounters of the animals that live in the city, many whom have come to accept her as part of their environment. The work will be displayed in gift card form and can be bought and carried away that night.
Both artists either walk or bike to every place that inspires their art.
Additionally, there will be a display by the Urban Ecology Center of Milwaukee encouraging viewers to come by and see what the center has to offer. For more information, visit: www.urbanecologycenter.org
I hope you can make it.
Yours,
Katie Musolff

The fire across the river
By 5 pm, the fire spread across the whole side, I was tattooing and I could only peek out and it was quite surreal, the fire lit up the night sky and it looked like the whole apartment building is now on fire.
It turned out the people I was working on and the following appointment have ties to the fire department. The poor firefighters had Christmas Party tonight and once again for second year in a row, they are out fighting a huge fire instead. According to our manager Lynda, it seemed they had the fire in control and then it flamed up again and again. The initial word is that everyone got out okay but likely the fire will be in a controlled burn for a few hours yet. The opinion is that the building is totaled.
Our thoughts go out to the displaced families and the group of firefighters out there fighting the elements. I bet Major Ron from Salvation Army is out there doing what they can for the families right now.

Breaking news
The riverwalk is closed! City's four wheeler crashed through the boardwalk while cleaning the snow .
It was first reported by the "West End Observers", before Patch and before Freeman. There were a lot of concern shown for all the drunken young men of Waukesha, we do have to prevent a La Crosse style mystery.
I am happy to report that the first and only person to ignore the warning sign and break through the barricade so far was a middle aged woman. I think she made it through okay.

Working progress
The Sierra Burger comes with a tall Miller Light, and it is a bacon cheese burger with smokey fries, very similar to Pat's fries. I guess the special sauce on the burger was a horseradish sauce but I did not taste it. When I asked Tony about it, I guess it was too strong for some at lunch so he backed off on it, I think he should have it on the side.
All the basic stuff was good, the beef and bacon was tasty, the fries was great, but I did have to tell Tony that the bar is raised pretty high for our little burger war that he needs to push it further. I will wait to see how this working progress will end up to be. I think we do demand another signature burger that can rival Valley burger, J Lotti burger, and Bodway burger. I do expect D Mo's to be in the front of the culinary art of downtown Waukesha, if we are going to be a well rounded Art City Waukesha, we will need D Mo's to lead the way; I know Tony has it, and he will not just make it good, he will make it awesome.
Of course there were little extra treats he gave me. He made some finger food for the fundraiser next room, one was a tuna tar tar, one was something in dates, and another was chicken salad on something, I ate them all so fast before I can analyze them... ;)
He also brought out some special 20 years old bourbon and like Darryl E. said, it was smooth like a baby's butt. I also had a special pale ale. D Mo's is bringing in a lot of special beer and liquor and is currently building a very unique wine list as well.
A little hint on this Thursday morning, D Mo's will have some breakfast out for the people coming to be the live TV background. I think I was called upon to do so, I have to find my rainbow hair wig.
Tony will also make Pailla for Darryl E. and I for on Wednesday, 19th... I wonder if the wives are invited...

POLICE BLOTTER-Now, wait a minute, how do you know that is not your new Senator Ron Johnson?
I did not know Les Paul also invented 8 Track. I also would like to know if Club 400 was ever at 463 W Main. I know there were Lighthouse the light supplier, Lighthouse the bar, and a bar called TCB (which is fitting with our Elvis themed reading room) and Shear Class.
From Freeman:
Reset, please.
No such "redemption" from all the dog lovers...
I suppose there is no need of this in Waukesha yet... They sure look like dog crates.
Today is my chance to try a Sierra Burger from D Mo's.
Brien is A-OK. :)
This is what we missed yesterday.

Packers game observation
This round is over, I am hoping for a Packers-Bears rematch in Chicago for NFC Championship. It will be good for the Midwest and more for us to talk about.
Sarah wrote an article about her Packers fan-dom, I am more depressed reading about her being 11-12 years old in 1997-98; I was tattooing Packer G's and Superman logos like crazy those years. I had a really rough week hearing it from Bill leading to the Broncos' win as if the Packers already had it won (I went to high school in Colorado). Some fan was so confident he had Superbowl Champ 31 &32 tattooed on BEFORE the game was even played, not by me though. You know how that goes usually, see exhibit Seattle Seahawks.
I was going to write in detail about my Bears fan-dom, but I think I will leave it to the following videos instead. Remember, around the mid-80's when I was a teen, what Packers were known for was those 6-3 boring Battle of the Bays games, and the cheap shot.
...and the Bears had Sweetness.
...and the Fridge
Before any hate email coming my way, I just want to say that I had grown sympathetic to Aaron Rogers after the whole Favre mess and I am likely the nicest Bears fan you will ever know.
From a football fan point of view, The Packers will have a very good team for years to come under the direction of Ted Thompson. The rivalry will continue to be good (I hope). ;) (Da Packers fan wife is not too impressed with this post btw, but Kodiak Kid will appreciate it.)

There should be enough food for about 8-10 people right now. Wife is gonna invite a few friends as well. On my list I have Sarah+1. Sonia? Eat? We can certainly use the dinner to discuss how we gonna plan out this Burger War in downtown Waukesha.
