Carroll Art Opening

The reception for the show is on Sunday, April 3 and will begin at
2:30pm with speeches from every artist starting around 3:00-3:15pm. I
would recommend getting to the gallery early; we are expecting a
large turnout. The gallery will be open from 7:00 am through midnight
every day while the show is up. Please feel free to see the show
before April 3 and come see the work often. Below is a link to view a
map of Carroll University campus, the Humphrey Art Center, and the
surrounding parking lots. The closest parking lot to the Humphrey Art
Center is the overflow parking lot, which is lot #9. Lot #9 can be
accessed from East Ave. or Barstow St. The address to the Campus
Center is: 100 N. East Ave. Waukesha, WI 53186. This will get you in
the general vicinity of the Humphrey Art Center. We look forward to
seeing each and every one of you April 3.

Thank you,

From the Artists

Last day of March already!? Not much in the news today but I just want to give a shout out to a little fraternity of younger hospitality business owners that is loosely being formed on Main St. You know who you are, the hardworking guys and gals shouldering all the responsibilities and working many roles to make downtown Waukesha better as a whole. Thank you... You made downtown Waukesha into a battleground and a playground, and I am proud to say I am standing in the trench with you even though I am not that young...

I had a short break between tattoos, so I ran to Sprizzo's for my soup and salad. I kinda miss my lunch service crew. Joan from River's End Gallery was there and she told me about the expansion process and her plan to have a classic front facade linking the two buildings and connect the two spaces into one giant gallery. That will be a great addition to the West End.

Tony from Bodway's also told me about the new gallery coming next door with some high art sculptures. We sure need to continue to raise the bar on the art. Speaking of bars, Tony from Bodway's is selling guitar picks to be signed, and he would stick them to the ceiling as part of the decoration. The proceed is going toward a cancer benefit B. C. Open, a charity event.

It was Tuesday Wing night at Bodway's and I decided to try the mild instead of Demon sauce again; I had enough of the demon-ripping-out-of-gut-next-morning experience... I guess Siren is going to be performing on the night of Art Crawl, perhaps we will close the gallery early to catch the show, depends on if we have a caterer that night or not. Music should be a big part of the Art City concept and we too should raise the bar on the music events in Waukesha as well.

I am all confused on the boundaries...

I had been pretty busy to a point that I had not been in the Man Cave, the "shed" back of the house. It is heated but kept at 50 degrees always. I went in yesterday and as I opened the door, a heatwave hit me in the face. It was 113 degrees inside! Apparently there were a malfunction of some sort and I had been heating it at high level for an undetermined period of time...

This morning I received my answer, my We-Energy bill jumped about $300 from previous month.... I know one day I'll laugh about it....

Pretty big news...

Coming soon

I had a behind the scene tour of D Mo's Pita and Pan today, well, it was more like the tour of the now-defunct Santiago's Chicken. It was really strange that I was there for lunch not that long ago.

The kitchen is actually quite big and there are even a walk in cooler in a separate room. Chef Tony's new crew was putting on a new coat of paint, and the new color will be green and orange, instead of light pink. I do have some suggestions for Chef Tony but I think he saw the potential of the place with a nice large hood and the nice large cooler.

Stay tuned...

Ms. Kool and I conducted another downtown tour for my visiting frat brothers and wives last night, we had the large round table at D Mo's, which they were surprised with the bill that they expected double with the quality of the food. Then we were off to Gen 5, and they were even more amazed with the music and decor. At J Lotti we saw many familiar faces. Too bad People's can't be a tour stop, but "People's Duchess" was at Magellan's and she represented, the "Duke of Quad" was there also so you know. The group had to all try the pizza, I ordered my favorite: BBQ chicken with Cilantro and it was a big hit. The party's last stop was Bodway's, the group was very happy with Tony's many inventions. Actually, it seemed we are not the only group going around checking out places. The night life certainly surprised a lot of people whom had been away from Waukesha and they were amazed just for people walking around late at night! They kept commenting how there were no place for 30-40 something people to go and now there are.

(I had plenty of Waukesha water at Bodway so you know...) Maybe some will wake up early for us to show them El Palmar...

Yikes, here we go again... Wiggy is gonna have a field day with this. You really really need to let this one go, Mayor Scrima.

Thanks, Missy Hot Blonde reporter

Mayor Scrima just paid me a visit to "thank" me for my "support"... it was like being called into Principle's office....

Thanks a lot...

By the way, two weeks notice to get on the Mayor's schedule, he is a busy man... He will only attend non-government meetings if invited, so take note of that, WDBA and WEAA.

(Being Chinese, the fear of imperial power is bred into me. :) )

3.24.11

I've learned my lesson this morning, no more cliffhangers... I do understand everyone's passion and desire to see an improved West End, just as everyone's passion for downtown Waukesha. I just think there is a fine line between relentless pushing for a vision for collective goods and being a bully with one's singular vision, and that had been the greatest asset and worst downfall of downtown Waukesha for a while... Two sides of the same coin, depends on which side you stand in. Don't forget I am a Taoist too.

Apparently what I blogged this morning hit a nerve, I had been hearing it from the neighbors, city officials, and even at the lunch counter, good or bad. The worse one was from one of the involved parties that I received a stern warning to say no more.

I go now. Maybe I can talk about it after six month.

RIP Liz Taylor

3.23.11

I witnessed a rather major deal between two local business owners late last night, with a contract signed and earnest money changed hand. It will change the quiet landscape of the West End in six month. Of course I can't reveal anything until six month from now...9-24-11, save the date.

How did I make the news again? Oh, boy, Chef Tony greeted the mayor personally with an invitation in front of another notable business owner during a lunch at D Mo's as I understand it. That is all I am going to say about that... Going forward, new business owners, please call Carol to schedule two weeks ahead instead of personal invite...

OK, now anti-Nelson group can start preparing... He is one of many.

3.22.11

I was walking yesterday and a new Jeep Cherokee pulled up and stopped. I looked in and it was Mayor Scrima saying hi. I was more concerned that he stopped right at the turn of West and Main. No mystery blonde and I was too chicken to ask. He asked me about his aunt's house I just purchased, and he said the new SUV is borrowed. From the mystery blonde? I did not ask and I guess it is an epic fail if I ever want to work for National Enquirer. :(

Last night was the special private Indian food dinner at D Mo's. Lynda's friends H. and A. ( who used to be the head chef at Dancing Ganesha) used Chef Tony's kitchen to prepare a wonder feast. I don't know, I think there might be an Indian/Vegetarian Monday at D Mo's in the future... Sometime it is all that is, good food, good friends and a good time. By the way, the owners of Vegan Essentials were at the bar and they loved the food as well!

Now this a second chance for a better working relationship at the top.

Oh, Alderman candidate Phil Esche was in with his wife to talk to the group, I think it is nice he is reaching out to the downtown community. Last night was D Mo's grand re-opening. The place was packed with all the Waukesha notables. Several merchants were wondering if there will be a greater participation from him to be in the flow of downtown revival. I was also told that there is an article in Milwaukee magazine crowned him the Emperor of Waukesha. I just might go get a copy to see what is really going on.

I have to write all the gossips before the newest Freeman gossip columnist Darryl get to it ;). There is a rumor of another new high end gallery coming to the West End, I am hoping to get some exclusive insider info on it soon at the West End Artist meeting tonight. There is also Ladies Night at J Lotti's every Thursday and likely we will be one of the sponsors for giveaways in April, please do look at our Facebook page for detail. D Mo's Pita and Pan is the name of the second venture by Chef Tony at the former Santiago Chicken location, it was announced last night. The coming Waukesha Burger War is confirmed now by J Lotti's, Bodway and People's Park, we just need People's Park to come back from the fire, we do miss them. Something to learn

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

The Japan earthquake and tsunami tragedy is just overwhelming for me to watch, yet the nation's character is shining through with all the order and restraint. People still go on their orderly life amid great chaos. Media refrained from showing bodies for the respect of the victims and families. People waited in line for payphone and food. It is just heartbreaking to see a nation so prepared with strict building code and emergency procedures still suffer such a great loss.

Do you know Japan has a network for citizens to receive earthquake warning text 15 seconds before it happens? A lot of Asian media are talking about how much Japan had been prepared and wonder how come the other nations on the ring of fire aren't...

People are people, folks, we should all hurt a little and give what we can, because one day we can be at the receiving end of nature's wrath. Also, how prepare are we for disaster like this? I do need to seriously look into putting together an emergency backpack.

Are you living the high life?

Doug is in the news today. Few years back, during a tattooing session, he asked me if I am living the high life? He sure is living his, shed hunting is his passion and he is doing it.

Was I happy at doing what I was doing?

It was one of many factors led to a major life changing decision and he provided a little push along with my family, Ms. Kool, Angel Sue, Robin, and Mary Lou.

I was lucky that I had the means and support to make the change and I was glad my partners had the faith in this dream to take the leap together. In a year, we now have an established shop, and we are happy doing what we are doing with room and means to pursuit other passions. The dream is still alive and I know there are further steps for Bill's vision.

I spoke to several insiders yesterday on the most puzzling issue of Waukesha at Bosco's Social Club last night and I left there scratching my head with even more confusion.

Several names were thrown out there but nothing concrete. Even the super insiders were puzzled.

Who is this hot blonde rumored to be accompanied by Waukesha Mayor Scrima in two sightings? What compelled Mayor Scrima to turn down a date from Ke$ha? What we know is that the hot mystery blonde is being confused with the southern belle Sarah Craft from Freeman, she accepted the "hot" and "blonde" part but denied the involvement. What compelled Jessica McBride to write him a "Love Letter"?

This modern Waukesha mystery deepens...
