West End Fight Club
It just happened all the stuff went down in front of the shop, and I have a video of the event upon review. I will be sharing that with the police if needed but it looks like a 6 against 2 assault and Chef Tony was knocked down first... Chef Nate then was getting beaten up by the six I think outside of the camera view.
No sound on my security camera but I think the police might have a better view of the whole event already.
Update: Chef Tony said he was assulted by these guys. They asked for smoke, then a light and then money he remember.
This is what I can see on the video, there seemed to be some gesturing by the group of six toward the general direction of Tony, I can not verify what happened when the group surrounded Tony, I do see him fall violently and a guy kicking his head (?) viciously.
Two sane guys usually will not pick a fight with six people, and I hope the cops will get to the bottom of this.
* Upon further review, I think Chef Nate had his back turned when Chef Tony was knocked down and the six were actually running away from Chef Nate once he realized what went down. This happened around 1:20 am so I do not really know what happened before or after nor anything about a fight outside a bar. Just to be fair to Chef Nate.

What you'll see:
I've spent the last year and mostly this spring and summer painting and drawing the wildlife around me while I've been on the Mississippi River, here in Stoddard WI. That's right, more fish. But now I've gotten into birds and bugs too.
Most are done in watercolor and some in ink.
I've included an artist statement below that explains a bit more.
The gallery will also be open during the Hidden River Art Festival and I'll be showing in a booth at the show as well which runs, September 16-18.
You can go to my site and get a sneak peak, www.katiemusolff.com
Thank you for your time and support.
Yours,
Katie Musolff
These paintings and drawings were made while living in a small house located on Pearl Street in Stoddard Wisconsin . There's not much to Stoddard and, actually, there's not much to the house either. But that's beside the point because just outside the back door, about 100 feet, is Pool 8 of the Mississippi River . The river is alive and ever-changing and it has a great deal to teach. So, this past year, I tried my best to become it's student. I swam, canoed and fished in it's waters. I grew and ate food from it's fertile grounds. I sat back and watched the endless array of animals and birds that frequented the yard, sketchbook in hand. I got bit by the bugs, chased by the snakes and romanced by the swallowtails. I closely followed the dramas of the feuding purple martins and sparrows like any other nosy neighbor would. I tried to get involved in some affairs, stepping into nature's realm to play judge and jury with mixed results. I watched things die that I wanted to live and, other times, I willingly killed things that I wanted dead. I collected animals, insects and bits of other things, always equipped with a handy plastic bag in my back pocket and spare jar in the boat. I brought my findings back into the little house and my makeshift studio where I painted them directly, allowing my eyes to move steadily over every inch, part artist, part naturalist but all eager student of the river.

Hi George – I can’t figure out how to comment on your blog yet (I’ll work on it!) but I wanted to respond to the question about the Jewel site. I am on the Zoning Board, and we gave approval recently to a company that sells used restaurant and grocery store equipment. They also use the space to refurbish it. Everything from large-scale equipment to to-go boxes in bulk. We’re hoping that they will be handy for all the caterers and restaurants in Waukesha. It will be open to the general public as well. This is a tough spot because the ingress and egress are so problematic, so we were happy that someone is interested in it. A few jobs will be created, as well.

Downtown brunch culture
Downtown Waukesha is busy today... D Mo's has half of the dining room full, Dave's and Steaming Cup are busy too. When you have to drive around to find parking on a Sunday, it is a good thing.
(Almost forgot about Sprizzo's too...)
Can't wait for People's to open.
P.S. I was told there will be a White Party on 9/3 at D Mo's at night with drink specials...Jody is organizing it but I have nothing all white to wear... I wish I have ai white jumpsuit or a white tux as in the movie Big...or even Saturday Night Fever white suit.

Stakeholders are property owners, not business owners. Since the stakeholders have the most invested in the downtown, they are the ones whose opinions should be given more weight over other respondants. Property owners carry the mortgages, pay the city and BID taxes and will probably be the first ones sued if anyone is injured during FFNL. THis is something that is not being considered. What is the City's liability? Who is paying for the police protection? Is there enough police presence? I could go on but won't.
I am both and I do not agree with her. You have to respect the people in the trench making it happen...

WDBA
Mayor Scrima is selling the convention center idea to downtown biz people... There is an ongoing dialogue with Marcus Corp. The project will be primary funded by private investors, perhaps with some TIF money as well.
It is looking to attract even bigger groups than what Country Spring can handle.
A lot of current places do not have the right ratio of meeting space and rooms. They do try to intentionally limit rooms so it can spill out to Clarke or Marriot.
The asset of downtown/Riverwalk will attract convention crowd as water park in Country Spring turns some away.
Hotel tax is good for the city and also goes to BID tax.
WDBA is highly interested.

More on the City Master Plan
| Reactions: |
Oops...
I was working on the back piece tattoo and missed most of the public comments of Common Council. I saw three "stakeholders" and two FFNL stage managers.
I did hear one said no to rock bands... That should cover from Beatles to Disturbed. I think the message is that Danny need to go country, or how about big band. If the extension is taken up by the whole 12 piece band, we will not have this issue... We also do not have to worry about Eric Clapton ever play at the Five Point when we get the Les Paul museum going...
We need to get to the middle somehow, some vision of downtown Waukesha is just a bit extreme... If you are a "stakeholder", you should not ever talk down to the "renters"...they are valid participants of the downtown revival.
UPDATE: The motion was voted down, but the aldermen is gonna take some control of the street fight... Yup, FFNL is "too successful" and one alderman did say not closing the street is no longer an option due to safety concern.

Call for Bike Rack Design!
Call for Artists/Designers/Welders--Requests for Proposals for Sculptural Bike Racks for Central Waukesha
DEADLINE: August 31, 2011
The Waukesha Bicycle Alliance is seeking proposals from artists or welders for sculptural bike rack designs for downtown Waukesha.
Art has been at the heart of downtown Waukesha's transformation and rejuvenation. The city now has many galleries, a thriving artist community, and has over 10 works of outdoor public art throughout the downtown. The lively art scene, shops and restaurants, and pedestrian-friendly environment makes downtown Waukesha a great bicycling destination. The WBA wants to encourage more people to come to downtown on their bikes. In fact, many of the challenges that the downtown faces (vehicle circulation, parking, and pedestrian/car conflicts) could be solved if more people rode their bikes. There is one problem: the downtown lacks adequate bicycle parking.
Project Purpose
The WBA is seeking at least five sculptural bike racks designs by artists from the Waukesha area. The WBA hopes to select the five winning designs from all the designs submitted. The WBA will then take the winning designs to local welders and metal shops to determine the cost of engineering, fabrication, and finish of the selected designs.
By having the complete cost of engineering, fabricating, and finishing the selected designs, the WBA can then set fundraising goals and contact various agencies and organizations that have expressed interest in funding the racks.
The WBA hopes that one result of this project will be the more public support for additional artistic bike racks, and more public support for establishing an artistic bike rack "fund" to help subsidize the costs for businesses that want to create their own design for an artistic bike rack outside their business. Our previous efforts at securing funds for an artistic bike rack have fumbled, partly because we do not have solid cost estimates for the fabrication of the rack designs.
Bike Rack Design Requirements:
Due to the limited street space for racks in the downtown area, the artistic racks need to fit in a narrow space and accommodate at least 2 bikes parallel to each other. Specifically, racks should meet the following specifications:
Width (depth) should not exceed 8”
Length should be at least 18” but not more than 7’
Height should be at least 3’ but not more than 7’
The rack should:
- Support the frame of the bicycle in two places, including bicycles without a diamond-shaped frame with a horizontal top tube (a step-thru frame such as traditional women’s bikes have)
- Allow for the bicycle frame and at least one wheel to be secured to the rack when both wheels are left on the bike
- Be strong enough to resist damage by the small bobcat-style front loaders that plow snow downtown.
- Not have any sharp points that could hurt children or inattentive pedestrians.
- Be constructed of durable, low maintenance materials
- The bike rack should be designed to be mounted with surface mounts in concrete
- More information about good rack design, and surface mounting into concrete, is available on the WBA specifications webpage.
Payment of Artist Fees
Artists who submit one of the 5 winning WBA chosen bike rack concepts will be awarded a $50 stipend for their submittal. All designs become property of the WBA. The WBA reserves the right to publish all designs submitted on the website www.bikewaukesha.org.
Guidelines for Submissions
Design proposals must be submitted electronically in PDF format by August 31, 2011.
- Each entry should consist of two 8.5 x 11 pages: The first page should have a drawing of the proposed design, along with the artist's contact information (name, email, phone, snail mail address, and webpage). The second page should include a list of materials and fabrication method and any other information the artist wishes to convey.
- Limit 2 entries per artist
Submissions may be mailed or e-mailed to:
Sonia Dubielzig, Waukesha Bicycle Alliance, bikewaukesha@gmail.com
Selection Process
A jury consisting of members of the WBA, some downtown business owners, and artists will review the design proposals.
Submissions are due by August 31, 2011
Sources for Additional Information
The WBA's sculptural bike racks webpage contains photos and more information. You can also contact Sonia Dubielzig at 262-271-6721 or e-mail bikewaukesha@gmail.com
