Really?

Some guy walked in the shop, asking for Wifi password. I said it is for customers. He then said, What? You called me a White Boy? I explained I said it is for customers. Then he walked out and flipped me off.

Police Blotter worthy...

Rich's tattoo in national media

See this.

Rich tattooed Mia Tyler's chest and wrist...

I just have to show and tell...

8.31.11

For not having a working phone and TV due to issue with Time Warner, Pita and Pan reopened with a decent first day. I was told some downtown elites showed up for lunch and it is great for their support.

Adam from the Waukesha Biker Gang was telling me about this exciting project with Carroll. The university gave them a garage right next to the dorm so they can teach students how to maintain bicycles. There were also new bike racks on campus... I think there is a great partnership being built with downtown, Carroll U, and the bike community.

This is a hot issue... If I am the homeowner, I will shoot before the home intruder get the drop on me. I would ask the question of how much was the perceived danger.

A Brew House coming to Waukesha.....county that is...

Darryl is back!

Gregg's advice to new Carroll freshmen.

Did you add yourself to the No Call List yet?

Water talk update.

HBR is coming for an interview piece at the shop this morning, watch for it in Freeman... It will be a keeper I promise.

8.30.11

Pita and Pan was not able to reopen yesterday amid some technical issues, but Oscar and Jonathan will have a soft open today as a plan. The original full size gyro is what I am hoping for lunch today... They are a honest hard working team and I hope the transition of management to them will be smooth. I am still putting art on the wall for them and help out when I can.

It looks like the homeowner was defending his own home...

Detention basin is as good as trenches... ;)

POLICE BLOTTER-No, Miss, the government is not the one putting stuff in your water, it is God!

Waukesha Biker Gang's new theme song? Here is an update.

Slow news day=short blog entry...

Wedding reception at Pfister

It seems like yesterday that Ms. Kool was taking riding lesson with our neighbor's daughter Lisa and her horse Sparky. Last night was her wedding reception.

It was our first time attending a wedding at the Pfister Hotel, we almost crashed a different wedding until Ms. Kool realized the bride looked a little different...

The room was grand and the food was excellent. I was really impressed with the coffee. It is rich and nutty. I now would consider theirs up there with Mader's coffee.

We sneaked out of there before the chicken dance started, but it was more like beating the traffic from Miller Park home.

Congrats to Lisa and Josh. It was a beautiful night.

West End Fight Club

It just happened all the stuff went down in front of the shop, and I have a video of the event upon review. I will be sharing that with the police if needed but it looks like a 6 against 2 assault and Chef Tony was knocked down first... Chef Nate then was getting beaten up by the six I think outside of the camera view.

No sound on my security camera but I think the police might have a better view of the whole event already.

Update: Chef Tony said he was assulted by these guys. They asked for smoke, then a light and then money he remember.

This is what I can see on the video, there seemed to be some gesturing by the group of six toward the general direction of Tony, I can not verify what happened when the group surrounded Tony, I do see him fall violently and a guy kicking his head (?) viciously.

Two sane guys usually will not pick a fight with six people, and I hope the cops will get to the bottom of this.

* Upon further review, I think Chef Nate had his back turned when Chef Tony was knocked down and the six were actually running away from Chef Nate once he realized what went down. This happened around 1:20 am so I do not really know what happened before or after nor anything about a fight outside a bar. Just to be fair to Chef Nate.

8.27.11

Royal wedding, it is a big deal!

This is pretty awesome! PBR even has a video on Patch.

Kinda like smoked it but did not inhale...

Fuzzy's in some hot water...

I did not know anything about it and still don't... I hope no one is hurt badly...

Bring back memories...

I think the theme for the year is water, last year was food.

Letters to the editor 1, 2

POLICE BLOTTER-Noise Police strikes again and scored a point, kind of.

Ms. Kool and I went to the party last night, it turned out I tattooed the party hostess 10-11 years ago. Eli agreed to show with his father sometime in the future at Galleria Edge. M.H. and Kya will come out to Waukesha soon because M.H. wants to introduce everyone to Bodway's burger. Perhaps Wendy will come out too, I made a nice connection with her puppy Ruby, of course we also happened to know Carol whom rescued her, small world...

Wedding reception at Pfister hotel tonight... yup, I don't work that much but party, party, party...

P.S. Did not make it to Moct, it was too late at night. Sorry, Sarah.

8.26.11

I was able to make the meet and greet last night. It was made clear that it is a Huelsman project. 1000 people main convention hall but only 160 rooms but with a five star food service... There are retail space on the first floor for the concept rendering. One coffee shop owner said he actually welcome a Starbucks because it validates the local coffee shops and usually they would see 15% increase in sales. I did hear the monster apartment project at the O'Brien's (and now Sign Shoppe too) is headed to a re-design by a new architect. Let's hope they also build for the future with first floor retailing and design for a more river friendly and neighborhood friendly mixed use space. As the few merchants at the far West End, we sure want to see more merchants to extend the prosperity of the business district there and perhaps FFNL. Someone did tell me something about a bar/check cashing place coming (There is no way it is going into formerly Kaytydids!) but I think it is just a baseless rumor...

( P.S. I met your boss, HBR. We demanded more Wiggy and his critics, also more wacky Police Blotter! )

Remember the Noise Police in this blotter? It was confirmed that Magallen's was one of the parties involved. A promotion of decibel meter giveaway coming? By the way, it is an Android App I have on my Galaxy Tab, and that is free...

The rubber ducky mystery at Otto's Art Academy continues... I think the next ducky that goes in will have concrete boots. It is really a shame that some people do not respect others' personal property. Curt also confirmed that he did not remarry while in California, all the single ladies in Waukesha can relax now.

Did you sign up yet? We signed up for Maxim maintenance 101.

Way to go, Gary!

Artists wanted.

Yup, check your money...

That is where I would start the talks first too.

Meet your South End artist neighbors... Wise Art Glass and Beyond.

POLICE BLOTTER-Fire! Fire! Fire!

I am going to miss FFNL tonight, I was invited to a party at the Third Ward by Kya from Soma Gallery. The owner of Artasia Eli will be there. Kya did not know that I met Eli years ago because I was a student of his famous father, artist Adolph Rosenblatt. Can I manage to get them to show at Galleria Edge? We shall see...

M.H. will be there too so I can see if I can find some answer to this rumor... The inquiry minds want to know!

This is pretty sweet... B-25 was the plane used in Doolittle raid... Same one you see outside of General Mitchel Airport.

Sad ending to a totally screwed up thing all around...

Oops, I missed it.

River End Gallery expansion gets an A-Okay, it will be great...

FFNL preview.

Big news with Apple.

Big GE logo sign had been there for a while by the parking lot...

SOUND OFF-The meet and greet is tonight...

Wiggy's column.

POLICE BLOTTER-That was not me...

Water talks. With all the drama, Mayor Scrima gets to go with the team anyway.

Gregg's top 5. If I put my ideal feeding schedule with specials out with no concern for waist line expansion, it will be:

Monday: Fujiyama sushi special

Tuesday:Bodway's wing night and the best burger some said/ Taco Tuesday at Taco John's/ Fujiyama sushi special

Wednesday:D Mo's endless pasta night and wine night

Thursday: lunch buffet at Le Gong Gourmet with hot and sour soup/ Endless ribs at D Mo's?/Bodway's wing night again (That is a lot of food for a day...)

Friday: Fish Fry at Eric's but family style with the roasted chicken

Saturday: Endless mussel buckets at D Mo's

Sunday: Brunch at La Estacion

Of course I will have Feng's lunch special and Sakura's sushi lunch B any day.

(I am just writing only about specials, that is why Rochester Deli, Sunset, Pat's Rib Place, El Palmar, Magellan's or Pita and Pan not listed. Of course no People's Park yet for obvious reason...)

Just to put it in perspective, few years back in downtown Waukesha would be subs, subs, subs... but further back, we had Benny's, Chiang Mai, and of course China City.

Old photo of Wis Guthrie

We asked Wis about it and he said it was taken in front of train depot, that is how they dressed up for an art opening at Carroll College...

You do want to come down and see Wis and son's show at the shop, Wis is a living Waukesha treasure...

(Once again, thanks to Mr. Dix for this bit of history.)

How is this for our building history...

Thanks so much to Mr. Dix!

Chef Tony on Chef Josie's Global Soul internet radio show

Chef Tony gave a very good shout out of Waukesha to the national audience despite they misspelled us as Washeaku, he also mentioned Bodway's and Pat's Rib Place...

Chef Tony now has to work on getting Chef Josie to throw out first pitch at Miller Park... Wow, Phillies are gonna be in town during that time...

Like it or not, Waukesha, Chef Tony has been a great ambassador in the culinary art.

From Mayor Scrima

Dear Downtown Business Association –

You are cordially invited to a special gathering this Thursday August 25, 2011 at 7:00 pm, at the Rotunda located at 235 West Broadway, for the purpose of a “meet and greet” with Partners in Development consultants for a potential Convention Center Downtown

We look forward to seeing you there

Jeff Scrima

Mayor, City of Waukesha

201 Delafield Street

Waukesha WI 53188

262.524.3700

Sadly I will not be able to attend unless there is a cancellation... I am a supporter, however.

Fake pot, and now fake 20's!

Dear BID Merchants:
Today, the BID Office was contacted by Joette Barta regarding the use of counterfeit $20's at the Nice Ash twice during the last week, and she wants other businesses to be careful. Joette indicates that the fakes are excellent forgeries; however, they do not have the strip down the left side of the bill, nor do they have the Presidential shadow when held to the light.
Additionally, the City of Waukesha Police Department asks that you report the use of fraudulent money to them by calling the non-emergency number: 524-3831. This will assist the Police Department with collecting information and determining if there are patterns related to when the activity happens. If you are unfamiliar with how to detect counterfeit money, please see the attached document issued by the Secret Service.
Always,

Meghan Sprager
Executive Director
Waukesha Business Improvement District

When: September 2−October 23, 2011
FREE Artist Dialogue: September 2, 6:30-8:00 pm

What you'll see:
I've spent the last year and mostly this spring and summer painting and drawing the wildlife around me while I've been on the Mississippi River, here in Stoddard WI. That's right, more fish. But now I've gotten into birds and bugs too.

Most are done in watercolor and some in ink.
I've included an artist statement below that explains a bit more.

The gallery will also be open during the Hidden River Art Festival and I'll be showing in a booth at the show as well which runs, September 16-18.

You can go to my site and get a sneak peak, www.katiemusolff.com
Thank you for your time and support.
Yours,
Katie Musolff

These paintings and drawings were made while living in a small house located on Pearl Street in Stoddard Wisconsin . There's not much to Stoddard and, actually, there's not much to the house either. But that's beside the point because just outside the back door, about 100 feet, is Pool 8 of the Mississippi River . The river is alive and ever-changing and it has a great deal to teach. So, this past year, I tried my best to become it's student. I swam, canoed and fished in it's waters. I grew and ate food from it's fertile grounds. I sat back and watched the endless array of animals and birds that frequented the yard, sketchbook in hand. I got bit by the bugs, chased by the snakes and romanced by the swallowtails. I closely followed the dramas of the feuding purple martins and sparrows like any other nosy neighbor would. I tried to get involved in some affairs, stepping into nature's realm to play judge and jury with mixed results. I watched things die that I wanted to live and, other times, I willingly killed things that I wanted dead. I collected animals, insects and bits of other things, always equipped with a handy plastic bag in my back pocket and spare jar in the boat. I brought my findings back into the little house and my makeshift studio where I painted them directly, allowing my eyes to move steadily over every inch, part artist, part naturalist but all eager student of the river.

Big fake pot raid in Waukesha.

That will leave a mark...

Chef Tony was in a media blackout but it is a personal /legal matter and he will pay a price for any of his mistakes, not the business and all the people with jobs. However, the planned event with Chef Josie goes on. I was told to listen to the broadcast tonight at 10pm.

Mayor Scrima denied.

POLICE BLOTTER-Where is Mr. Nipple Gate in all this regarding the very last item!?/interesting item regarding the noise...

Mr. Hammen shared this with me the other day... I hope WackySha will not get that far...

I was at D Mo's Pita and Pan last night hanging up artworks and help with some other improvements; the team of Jonathan and Oscar are excited to come back to run the restaurant again. They told me Monday 8-29-11 at 11am is when it will reopen. I was then invited to have some food with them at El Sol De Mexico, my first time there and I will be taking Ms. Kool back there soon...

8.20.11

I was told FFNL went okay, except the Lonely Hearts was drawing most of the crowd and kept them in front of Magellan's. I guess people really like this rock band stuff... Fewer stages, bigger bands for next year?

Meet and greet for the Convention center.

No drunk driving please.

Boogie Wiggy... One correction is on Mr. and Mrs. Otto, that can break some girl's heart (By the way, all the birds on Otto's Art Academy building flew away) ... The other is that Pita and Pan might not reopen for a few days yet... The team of Jonathan and Oscar are going back to run the place as when it was first opened...

Chef Josie is confirmed... I will keep you all updated...

Professional tattoo world can use less drama...

Today is Rich's big 40, he finally joined the rest of the old farts in the shop...

Seven years ago we gained a new angel named Sadie, and we know she is still smiling...

8.19.11

At least we will have water? With all the past drama, Mayor Scrima will get to go with the negotiating team after all?

Make sure you ban Funyuns too.

Band drama.

Good thing happening...

Nov. 1, hey? (Note to self: heater for machine gun nest...)

Wouldn't we have more funding, more railroad and more jobs with the speed rail project?

FFNL is tonight, see you all out there!

Live blogging

Lonely Hearts rocking at D Mo's! It is rock and it is loud! Adam from WBA, Erik, Darryl, Wiggy+Lovely Doreen, Mr. Otto, West End 's Most Eligible Bachelorette, and West End Observers are seen in the packed bar and in the side gallery/ VIP room... (If you missed the band, they will be out at Magellan's Friday night for FFNL and often at Bodway's, these kids are really impressive...)

Well, the desserts are pretty kool too... ( Red Velvet cheese cake and Tiramisu cheesecake with berries.)

8.18.11

Mayor Scrima is rumored to be seen with a young lady around town. Perhaps he will have a date for the Royal Wedding.

Pita and Pan should be open soon. I swear it was longer than 2 weeks...

Not a good thing...

HR rules.

FFNL preview... The Lonely Hearts will also be playing at D Mo's cocktail party tonight with helps from Bodway's. Good to see downtown biz working together.

Carroll Art opening.

Does it mean Wiggy won't be going after Mayor Scrima now?

SOUND OFF- I like my grape sweet...;)

POLICE BLOTTER-She looks young...

Remember Marc Sijan's exhibit at the Waukesha County Museum?

Another reminder for the artsy bike rack designs...

Brien reporting on the water ski show.

This question did not cross my mind.

Chef Josie is talking about doing a national wide broadcast from D Mo's, according to Chef Tony. I suggested a pre-sale for the events and I think there might be a Koolfool discount in play for my 3 blog readers...

Perhaps I'll see you all later tonight at D Mo's. Lonely Hearts is really good... Speaking of ROCK bands, Daisy Chain will be playing at Bosco's on 9-3-11 and Barry will be rocking in their downtown Waukesha debut. (Update: The Daisy Chain show might be a closed event due to the expected large guest list.)

8.17.11

I missed the West End Artist meeting but there is an exciting street art project being talked about. Think of it as a temporary mural...

I drove by Pita and Pan and Ramon was cleaning the space. Perhaps it will be up and running soon.

Barry came back from being on tour with Disturbed, he had fun and some great foodie experience... but yet he still miss some late night delivery from Feng's. As a shop we really need to 1099 them.

Sarah the blogger was tweeting about this to Sarah from Patch as it was going on...

Not gonna happen...

Why would anyone do that!?

SOUND OFF-Eat needs to explain TIF again, slowly this time...

POLICE BLOTTER-IRS is gonna give you tons of money if you give them $500...

Wiggy denies the involvement.

To answer Wiggy, did you see the latest concept around the convention center... It is historical and it stores all the water it needs! Urban trench or conservation moat we call it.

Controversy...We donated the prior year...

I am hoping to make this...

Hi George – I can’t figure out how to comment on your blog yet (I’ll work on it!) but I wanted to respond to the question about the Jewel site. I am on the Zoning Board, and we gave approval recently to a company that sells used restaurant and grocery store equipment. They also use the space to refurbish it. Everything from large-scale equipment to to-go boxes in bulk. We’re hoping that they will be handy for all the caterers and restaurants in Waukesha. It will be open to the general public as well. This is a tough spot because the ingress and egress are so problematic, so we were happy that someone is interested in it. A few jobs will be created, as well.

Triple Play!

Is the cow staying?

Woodman is expected to open in the summer of 2013...

New neighbors coming...

BlueFest was a hit!

Best beef soup, carne asada in Verde sauce, steak fajita, cheese enchiladas, and horchata in my book...

SOUND OFF-Wiggy, was that you?

POLICE BLOTTER-It is not a crime being Spidey....

Still can't get over it...Brien has a Triple Play too, blogger style...

Mr. Otto has one new post up too! Curt, I do have some rubber ducky to donate, which color would you like?

One mural is going away... I had painted a few of those in my former high school in Colorado, I wonder if they are still there.

Had been busy updating the AV equipments in the Man Cave... Barry is coming back today from the tour with Disturbed and we have to start getting ready for our newest tattoo artist Jason!

Downtown brunch culture

Downtown Waukesha is busy today... D Mo's has half of the dining room full, Dave's and Steaming Cup are busy too. When you have to drive around to find parking on a Sunday, it is a good thing.

(Almost forgot about Sprizzo's too...)

Can't wait for People's to open.

P.S. I was told there will be a White Party on 9/3 at D Mo's at night with drink specials...Jody is organizing it but I have nothing all white to wear... I wish I have ai white jumpsuit or a white tux as in the movie Big...or even Saturday Night Fever white suit.

Inside info

At today's intense torturing session, I managed to find out when Chef Josie is coming... 9/7 to 9/21... So you know...

Also, Pita and Pan might reopen next week...

8.13.11

This Bears fan says Right on, President... ;) Can you force a trade with an executive order?

Since we are on sports... here is the drama queen from the hated Cubs... Sure it is all about him and not about the concept of a team...

Some big news today... Where in the world is HBR?

Les Paul Museum moving ahead... It will be at the current building instead of a new downtown location. That kills the rumor of it being at the Five Point.

Woodman's is coming! That will sure change the East end of Main Street.

At least he is okay...

Don't forget about the Bluesfest...

JOBS! Good stuff...

Coming meetings...

Health clinic moving ahead...

SOUND OFF-Wiggy is hearing it from his fans again...

No clue about how FFNL went last night, I was at the Brewers game...

Not on my end

So you all know, this blog is open for all to read, just for registered people to comment. If your comment did not show up right away, it might either be in the spam filter or you commented on a post that is more than 4 days old. I will say something if I have to delete any.

I do not block anyone and honestly do not know how. Scout honor.

Thanks.

P.S. Apparently Ms Kool had issue posting comments, not sure if OPEN ID and wordpress account are working. Gmail account seems to work. Please use this post to test. Thank you! If you have something you like to post and you can not. Please do email me at George@waukeshatattoo.com...Sorry for all the trouble.

8.12.11

M.H. came to add more to his side tattoo, he is in this short video (Years of Inspiration) right around where the bar is at "Ins" part of Inspiration. Look for the J Lo collection soon at your local Kohl's... We went to Bodway's because he rated Bodway's as the best burger in Waukesha. In fact, No.2 in his book in Wisconsin. This is his No.1.

Everyone is for it, even made a blind man see... ;) (I have to tease Gregg next time at Salvation Army meetings.) Speaking of Salvation Army, Major Ron was in ICU yesterday following heart bypass surgery, please keep him in your thoughts and send some positive energy his way.

Perhaps we can finally move on from FFNL and street closing and focus on how to turn Main into Bourbon Street for the convention crowd and the proper protocol for noise compliant to the convention center...;) (Note to self: Need to build balconies and buy lots of beads, hey, I wonder if I can order them from DeDe...)

Car show and a new ride for BID.

Pretty interesting people on that list.

Oh, boy, #1 holiday movie is here...

Another piece of the 80's gone.

Majority wins...

Here is the BID survey result.

See this comment:

Christine VanderBloemen

Stakeholders are property owners, not business owners. Since the stakeholders have the most invested in the downtown, they are the ones whose opinions should be given more weight over other respondants. Property owners carry the mortgages, pay the city and BID taxes and will probably be the first ones sued if anyone is injured during FFNL. THis is something that is not being considered. What is the City's liability? Who is paying for the police protection? Is there enough police presence? I could go on but won't.

I am both and I do not agree with her. You have to respect the people in the trench making it happen...

Wiggy is back to classic form!

SOUND OFF-Is Yoda the next target?

Let's get some refund!!! ...and the tax went down...

8.10.11

Only if these missteps are not coming back to bite Mayor Scrima... but facts have a funny way of being stubborn. Just show all the cards already...

Can we go back to talk about the Convention Center now?

Waukesha Blue Fest! Almont Gallery still has some tickets...

Waukesha Reads and Haunted House...

Darryl, are you saying the Big Dogs are going to make lots of noise?

SOUND OFF-Two faces of long time Scrima supporters going at it.

POLICE BLOTTER-Wanna buy a DVD?

What were being taken by looters in London rioting...

WDBA

Mayor Scrima is selling the convention center idea to downtown biz people... There is an ongoing dialogue with Marcus Corp. The project will be primary funded by private investors, perhaps with some TIF money as well.

It is looking to attract even bigger groups than what Country Spring can handle.

A lot of current places do not have the right ratio of meeting space and rooms. They do try to intentionally limit rooms so it can spill out to Clarke or Marriot.

The asset of downtown/Riverwalk will attract convention crowd as water park in Country Spring turns some away.

Hotel tax is good for the city and also goes to BID tax.

WDBA is highly interested.

8.9.11

If you build it, they will come.

Downtown clinic coming.

Okay, the anti-bar crowd is going too far...

Follow-up on the FFNL incident.

Shouldn't the Jedi Council have their light sabers?

Photos from Art Crawl 1 and 2.

POLICE BLOTTER- They were telling me about THAT guy... He really really likes Cory at D Mo's, you know, "Waldo".

London is burning... I saw that even one of the shops at the little town my sis is at was hit. I remember walking by that Rogue place.

D Mo's new lunch menu is out! Sorry, Erik, you can only have CRAB cake now. I have heard the Carnitas-Pull pork sandwich was a big hit, they had a whole lunch party ordered the same thing, they must be my blog readers... ;) For the Pita and Pan fans, you can get the D Mo Dog there now with everything on it...

P.S. I forgot, Fox 6 is doing Sprizzo's this morning at 9 am...

Sunday Mixed Bag

Valerie Christell, the artist for the next art crawl at Galleria Edge, tackled this subject in some of her work which I found fascinating...

Now there is a thought, Mayor Scrima is bring in a convention center for the royal wedding... If you are or you know some business/community leaders, please fill out or forward this survey.

By the way, Mayor Scrima was at Bodway's enjoying some pretty nice and loud rock music last night, perhaps there is hope for rock fans in WackySha?

See the Police Report: A caller complained at 6:49 p.m. Friday that the music from the Freeman Friday Night Live stage at Magellan's was too loud. Caller was advised that the noise was not excessive.

Some said Jim Taylor was called... I have a question and request: Would the fighting on Main stopped already? We are trying to attract a 20 mil convention center here and I am sure they are studying us RIGHT NOW.

Off to the Sunday Brunch at D Mo's... The Carnitas sandwich with some kimchi aioli and sliced cauliflower I had for lunch the other day is calling me...

Like Father, Like Son

We had a great Art Crawl opening, and I do encourage all to come and see the works of a living treasure of Waukesha and a pioneer in digital media. (Thank you for all attended last night!)

Here are the bios of Wis and Gerry...

If you do not know who Grant Wood is, whom Wis studied under, you will know this painting...

Art Crawl preview

Almont Gallery has this piece about Lady Gaga, my usual question is Where is the nipple? :)

8.6.11

The rumor is that it is related to Paris... Either way, it is a good thing.

Lots of dogs at FFNL...

What is up next week as HBR takes a break...

I was introduced to her at FFNL and I was able to thank her personally.

Collection jar is out... Perhaps some help from BID?

SOUND OFF-Okay, I spoke too soon... Danny took out the orange fence and the band was playing to the crowd on the street like the Steaming Cup setup. I thought the crowd was loving it. I also noticed no food truck and no bouncy house...

I talked to an insider about the Royal Wedding between Duchess of People and Duke of Cleveland with Emperor being the best man. The unconfirmed wild rumor is that there will be a royal decree to close Main once again and allow open intoxicant that day. Spring House will be moved back to Five Point with red carpet leading to it for the ceremony. However, I think there is a scheduling conflict with the Zombie Walk on 10.15.11 so Zombies might be crashing the wedding...

There were also talks that the bachelor party is at Kinko's? What?!

All eyes on whom the Emperor will bring as his date, perhaps the mystery blonde? Smart money is still on Ke$ha...

Art Crawl is tonight, come to see Like Father, Like Son... Did you notice the Gear Room gallery at D Mo's is done? It is featuring the art of Cory Albrechtson.

I had some preliminary talk with Mr. Nipple Gate about having a group show in 2013 with nipple or breast as a theme. May will be the logical time to go with the River Walk for Breast Cancer... I hope there will be lots of breasts and udders... Of course that is only if 2012 world end date does not happen.

Curt is blogging again! Did you round up the usual suspects? The eagle at Waukesha State Bank might be next...

What is the truth?

Remember this?

George,
I'm not sure who you are referring to as "the SOUND POLICE" in your blog:
"There are also some rumors on some regulation on the SOUND POLICE, I was told that the more than normal amount of
complaints from the same people is starting to become an issue for "draining the police resource".
Please check your source of this unfounded rumor.
For the record: Neither Vicky or I have called the police regarding noise this year.
Also, I made a promise to Jim Taylor that I would call him before we call the Police if I had issues with noise.
I have yet to call Jim.
Once again, you may want to check your source of this unfounded rumor.
Tom

Tony Bodway just protested that cops were called on them for noise this year by the Hekkers. Once again, I am just a messenger. I welcome more emails to clarify this or some clarification from the Waukesha Police, I am trying to be fair and balance here...

In defense of the Hekkers, someone said they were dancing to Magellan's music on their rooftop patio, perhaps that is a sign of peace to come?

8.5.11

Today's blog is the HBR edition, I am sure she stayed up until 4 am to write all the articles...

Thank you for putting up with us. Time for the truth to come out! I think we all need to demand that.

Milwaukee is gonna exploit the weakest link... We have some answers.

Fun Police 1, Magellan 0.

Scrima Pit Bull rally... Is Wiggy gonna bring Nelson out to have an anti rally?

An existing asset to downtown Waukesha celebrating... (Lynda, please make sure you tell Amelia about it...)

SOUND OFF-Would someone post that "mystery email" from one of the "stakeholders" that went to all the aldermen here? I think the public and this "stakeholder" would like to know what is in it.

More on the City Master Plan

Here is the city link.

This is what Erik thinks.

We certainly do not oppose the residential plan behind our building, but then we should really plan some natural barrier or fence on the back of our property so our parking lot is not the short cut from Wisconsin Ave. still.

I think having the Farmer's Market on both side of the river is a great idea. Like Madison's Farmer's Market, we can walk around in a big circle.

Oops...

I was working on the back piece tattoo and missed most of the public comments of Common Council. I saw three "stakeholders" and two FFNL stage managers.

I did hear one said no to rock bands... That should cover from Beatles to Disturbed. I think the message is that Danny need to go country, or how about big band. If the extension is taken up by the whole 12 piece band, we will not have this issue... We also do not have to worry about Eric Clapton ever play at the Five Point when we get the Les Paul museum going...

We need to get to the middle somehow, some vision of downtown Waukesha is just a bit extreme... If you are a "stakeholder", you should not ever talk down to the "renters"...they are valid participants of the downtown revival.

UPDATE: The motion was voted down, but the aldermen is gonna take some control of the street fight... Yup, FFNL is "too successful" and one alderman did say not closing the street is no longer an option due to safety concern.

Much better than all the drama tattoo shows...

Call for Bike Rack Design!

Call for Artists/Designers/Welders--Requests for Proposals for Sculptural Bike Racks for Central Waukesha

DEADLINE: August 31, 2011

The
Waukesha Bicycle Alliance is seeking proposals from artists or welders for sculptural bike rack designs for downtown Waukesha.

Art has been at the heart of downtown Waukesha's transformation and rejuvenation. The city now has many galleries, a thriving artist community, and has over 10 works of outdoor public art throughout the downtown. The lively art scene, shops and restaurants, and pedestrian-friendly environment makes downtown Waukesha a great bicycling destination. The WBA wants to encourage more people to come to downtown on their bikes. In fact, many of the challenges that the downtown faces (vehicle circulation, parking, and pedestrian/car conflicts) could be solved if more people rode their bikes. There is one problem: the downtown lacks adequate bicycle parking.

Project Purpose
The WBA is seeking at least five sculptural bike racks designs by artists from the Waukesha area. The WBA hopes to select the five winning designs from all the designs submitted. The WBA will then take the winning designs to local welders and metal shops to determine the cost of engineering, fabrication, and finish of the selected designs.

By having the complete cost of engineering, fabricating, and finishing the selected designs, the WBA can then set fundraising goals and contact various agencies and organizations that have expressed interest in funding the racks.

The WBA hopes that one result of this project will be the more public support for additional artistic bike racks, and more public support for establishing an artistic bike rack "fund" to help subsidize the costs for businesses that want to create their own design for an artistic bike rack outside their business. Our previous efforts at securing funds for an artistic bike rack have fumbled, partly because we do not have solid cost estimates for the fabrication of the rack designs.

Bike Rack Design Requirements:

Due to the limited street space for racks in the downtown area, the artistic racks need to fit in a narrow space and accommodate at least 2 bikes parallel to each other. Specifically, racks should meet the following specifications:

  • Width (depth) should not exceed 8”

  • Length should be at least 18” but not more than 7’

  • Height should be at least 3’ but not more than 7’

The rack should:

  • Support the frame of the bicycle in two places, including bicycles without a diamond-shaped frame with a horizontal top tube (a step-thru frame such as traditional women’s bikes have)
  • Allow for the bicycle frame and at least one wheel to be secured to the rack when both wheels are left on the bike
  • Be strong enough to resist damage by the small bobcat-style front loaders that plow snow downtown.
  • Not have any sharp points that could hurt children or inattentive pedestrians.
  • Be constructed of durable, low maintenance materials
  • The bike rack should be designed to be mounted with surface mounts in concrete
  • More information about good rack design, and surface mounting into concrete, is available on the WBA specifications webpage.

Payment of Artist Fees
Artists who submit one of the 5 winning WBA chosen bike rack concepts will be awarded a $50 stipend for their submittal. All designs become property of the WBA. The WBA reserves the right to publish all designs submitted on the website www.bikewaukesha.org.

Guidelines for Submissions

Design proposals must be submitted electronically in PDF format by August 31, 2011.

  • Each entry should consist of two 8.5 x 11 pages: The first page should have a drawing of the proposed design, along with the artist's contact information (name, email, phone, snail mail address, and webpage). The second page should include a list of materials and fabrication method and any other information the artist wishes to convey.
  • Limit 2 entries per artist

Submissions may be mailed or e-mailed to:
Sonia Dubielzig, Waukesha Bicycle Alliance, bikewaukesha@gmail.com

Selection Process
A jury consisting of members of the WBA, some downtown business owners, and artists will review the design proposals.

Notification and Timeline
Submissions are due by August 31, 2011
Selected artist/designer/welders will be notified by September 10.
